D'Angelo Funeral Home Obituaries

Obituary: Robert Charles Checko, 64, of Middletown

Bobby was the son of the late Josephine (Bartolotta) and Frank Checko Sr. He is survived by his brothers Stanley Checko of Rocky Hill, Frank Checko Jr and his wife Ruth of Cromwell, his niece Krysten Checko of Wethersfield, his nephew and Godson, Drew Checko of Cromwell, his Uncle William Bartolotta and Aunt Peggy of Maryland, his Aunt Gloria Bartolotta, his Uncle Richard Przekopski, his Aunt Blanche Popienick, his step nieces Brittany and Elizabeth Plummer, as well as several cousins, on both sides of family. He was preceded by many aunts and uncles.Bobby was a very private person, he led a quiet life and did things on his own terms but that is what made Bobby unique. Although he was extremely strong he was a gentle giant. Bobby was a classic example of a product of the 60's and 70's. He was well known as a very aggressive football player when he played in the Pony League in Cromwell; Coach Filanda always said he was the toughest, strongest, and most fearless player he had ever instructed. He loved to watch sports and attend Wesleyan football games with his buddies. Everyone will remember his dry sense of humor and his funny sayings that no one repeated or really understood but laughed at anyway. Most memorable was his phrase he always used just before parting ways, "Catch ya in the breeze!" he would say; we will someday do just that Bobby.Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 3 from D'Angelo's Funeral Home, 22 South Main Street, Middletown CT, at 10:00am, followed by an11:00am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 10 Elm Street, Middletown, CT. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family and Friends may call at D'Angelos Funeral Home, on Tuesday, April 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to South District Fire Department Local 3918 Fundraising Account, 445For more information and to leave online condolences, visit D'Angelo Funeral Home here.Image via ShutterstockGet the Middletown newsletterSubscribe...
